In honor of the new year, we’ve established an AIP Inc goal: we call it Mission 30, Mission 3.0. This stands for 30 deals a day, and three more locations in the next 12 months. Looking back at the end of next year, we want to think of 2019 as the Year of Expansion.

Being goal-oriented is as important for organizations as it is for individuals, and for the same reasons. Goals create the metrics company leaders use to measure progress, and they influence the decision-making process as well. It’s AIP Inc policy to set company objectives in all areas of our operations, including team growth, loss prevention, and customer satisfaction.

To set appropriate targets for our company, we use the same strategy we teach team members in our training program. We follow the SMART acronym, which stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-sensitive. These elements create a filter through which even the vaguest wish can be turned into a clear-cut objective.

Take our Mission 30, Mission 3.0 campaign. We started out knowing that we wanted to expand, and then we started looking at this objective through the SMART lens. When we got specific, we realized what growth really meant to us – more sales, and more offices. Measurable gave us the exact numbers of sales and offices we wanted, and achievable kept us realistic in our appraisal. The “why” behind these numbers is what makes them relevant, and the deadlines make them timely.
